Summary
A follow-along workshop on writing prompts well, and then on writing prompts for agents, for staff who have the basics and want the one skill everything else depends on. You write your own prompts throughout and are coached on improving them live, on whichever chatbot your organisation uses. You finish with a repeatable method rather than a list of tricks, and you know when a task is ready to become a template, a scheduled prompt or an agent.
Course breakdown
Prompt Engineering
The four essential parts of an effective prompt, goal, context, source and expectations, worked through on a real task. How generative AI reads what you write, and the full menu of techniques from structured and role prompting to chain of thought and meta prompting.
Personas and Consistency
Creating a persona with one-shot prompting and replicating a style for agents, with a use case in persona design for brand and communication consistency. Controlling the output format, and why sources and citations are key.
Advanced Prompting Techniques
Question and answer prompts that make the AI interview you before it answers, handling assumptions, and answering from a document with a fallback when the document is silent. Why a human stays in the loop, shown through article creation with the AI pausing for approval.
Ways of thought
Chain of thought and tree of thought prompting, used to compare three AI adoption strategies and to run a meeting transcript, agenda and template through a seven-step chain.
Advanced Prompting
Moving from writing prompts to reusing reliable ones: prompt libraries, prompt templates, meta prompting that improves your prompts for you, and scheduled prompting with a weekly AI news digest.
AI Agents
Adding role and backstory, and the anatomy of an agent: role, purpose, main task and target user. Two first agents, a prompting agent and an HR assistant, then tool-calling agents, prompt chaining, debugging a prompt that fails, and when to use a prompt, a template, a scheduled prompt or an agent.
What you leave with
After the course, you'll be able to:
- Apply a repeatable prompting method rather than a list of tricks
- Get a usable answer first time far more often
- Recognise when a task is repetitive enough to hand to a template, a scheduled prompt or an agent
