Privacy Policy
What this website collects, what it loads from other companies, and what it stores in your browser. A working draft with the open questions marked in the text.
This is a working draft. Everything in it describing what the website does was checked against the code that builds this site, so it is accurate about the site. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer or by a data protection adviser. Anything nobody has decided yet is marked in the text as [TO BE CONFIRMED], and those points are genuinely open rather than a form of words. Please do not rely on this page until those are settled and somebody qualified has read it.
Who is responsible for this website
This website is published at thevoiceofbusiness.eu by the business trading as The Voice of Business.
[TO BE CONFIRMED: the registered legal entity behind that trading name, its registered address and its company number. None of these appears anywhere in this project, so none is stated here. The website is already built to print them the moment they are supplied.]
[TO BE CONFIRMED: an email address or postal address for privacy enquiries, and who is responsible for answering them.]
What kind of website this is
It is a static website. Every page is written out as a finished HTML file before publication and uploaded to the hosting account as a file. There is no application running behind the pages and no database. Nothing you do on the site is processed by any code of ours while you are reading it.
There are no user accounts. There is nothing to register for, nothing to log into, and no members’ area.
Information you give us
None, through this website.
No page on this site has a contact form, a sign-up form, a newsletter box or any other field whose contents are sent to us. We checked every page of the built site for one.
There are search boxes, on the search page and on several listing pages. They work entirely inside your browser: the page downloads this site’s own index file and filters it on your device. What you type is not sent to us and is not stored.
One thing is worth naming rather than leaving out. Some pages in the back catalogue were carried over from the site’s previous WordPress version and still contain that site’s own search box inside their saved text. If you submit it, what you typed is placed in the address of a page on this site. Nothing here reads it or keeps it, but it would appear in whatever access log the hosting company keeps.
[TO BE CONFIRMED: what the hosting company records about visits, including IP addresses, how long it keeps those records, where they are held, and under what agreement.]
Information collected automatically
The published site uses Google Analytics 4 to count how many people read which page. It is loaded from www.googletagmanager.com and configured with the measurement ID G-DRPGK79MSP.
Google’s code stores an identifier in your browser so that it can tell a returning visit from a new one, and reports back to Google information about your visit, typically including the pages you looked at, the approximate location your connection is coming from, and the kind of device and browser you are using. That information goes to Google, who process it on the business’s behalf, and the business sees it as aggregate reports.
Analytics runs only on the live site at thevoiceofbusiness.eu. The review copy of this site, used to check work before it is published, carries no analytics at all.
[TO BE CONFIRMED: the lawful basis relied on for analytics, and whether consent is to be asked for before Google’s code loads. At the time of writing the site shows no consent banner. This is set out on the cookie page.]
[TO BE CONFIRMED: the data retention setting on the Google Analytics property, which controls how long user-level data is kept. It is a setting inside Google Analytics rather than something visible in this website’s code.]
[TO BE CONFIRMED: whether Google Signals, advertising features or data sharing with Google are switched on in that property. They change what the identifier is used for and what leaves the European Economic Area.]
[TO BE CONFIRMED: the data processing terms in place with Google, and the transfer mechanism relied on for any data that leaves the European Economic Area.]
Other companies whose code runs on this site
One, and only one: Google, as described above.
Nothing else is fetched from a third party anywhere on this site. The typefaces, the stylesheets, the images and the search index are all served from this site’s own address, so no font service, no content network, no advertising network, no social media widget and no chat tool sees your visit.
Some pages link out to other organisations’ websites, including professional profiles on LinkedIn. Following one of those links takes you to a site this business does not run, and what happens there is covered by that site’s own policy rather than this one.
What is stored on your device
The site’s own code stores nothing. It sets no cookies and it uses no local storage or session storage in your browser.
The only thing stored is what Google’s analytics code stores. The cookie page describes it and how to refuse it.
How long information is kept
Records held by the business itself: none arise from this website, because the website collects nothing directly.
[TO BE CONFIRMED: the retention period set in Google Analytics, and the retention period for the hosting company’s access logs. Both are real retention periods and neither has been chosen here.]
Your rights
If the analytics described above amounts to personal data about you, which in most readings it does, then under the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation you have the right to ask what is held about you, to ask for it to be corrected or erased, to object to it being processed, to ask for it to be restricted, and to complain to a supervisory authority.
[TO BE CONFIRMED: the address those requests should go to, and which supervisory authority is the relevant one, which depends on where the business is established.]
Children
This website is aimed at people buying and running training and audits for their organisations. It is not aimed at children and asks nobody their age, because it asks nobody anything.
Changes to this policy
This page will change when the outstanding points above are settled, and again whenever what the site does changes. It carries no version number yet.
[TO BE CONFIRMED: whether this page should carry a “last updated” date, and what the review interval is.]
